Case File: 047 — The Pond

By Yvonne Aore

What if you made a wish—and reality changed so completely that no one remembered the life you had before?

Twenty-two-year-old Zuri Campbell walks into a North Yorkshire police station with an impossible claim.

She isn't Zuri Campbell.

She is Daniel Hart.

There's only one problem: Daniel Hart doesn't exist.

Every record confirms Zuri's identity. Everyone remembers her life. No one remembers Daniel.

According to Zuri, it began with a mysterious fountain that appeared outside a shopping center offering a simple invitation:

One penny. One wish.

The fountain vanished. The wish didn't.

As Detective Inspector Christopher Thompson investigates, he uncovers accounts of strange ponds appearing throughout history. People approach them believing they know what they want—but the water seems capable of discovering the desires they won't even admit to themselves.

Wishes are granted. Lives are rewritten. People disappear.

And reality changes so completely that the world forgets anything was ever different.

Almost.

Because sometimes, traces remain.

Case File: 047 — The Pond by Yvonne Aore is a supernatural mystery about identity, hidden desires, altered reality, and the terrifying consequences of getting exactly what you really want.

THE POND DOESN'T GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

IT GIVES YOU WHAT YOU REALLY WANT.
