What does your business do?
Spell, Book and Candle, LLC is more than a metaphysical shop—it’s a place where people come to heal, learn, and feel accepted.
We offer a thoughtfully curated selection of crystals, herbs, handcrafted loose-leaf teas, candles, books, spiritual tools, and our exclusive 1692 Apothecary line of ritual oils, spiritual baths, salts, and herbal products.
Beyond retail, we provide Spiritual Advisement, tarot and oracle readings, Reiki, energy healing, life coaching, and certified Death Doula services.
I’m also an author and the founder of the Sacred Arts Academy, an educational program dedicated to preserving traditional wisdom while making spiritual education accessible to anyone who wants to learn.
Our purpose has never simply been to sell products. It’s to create a welcoming place where people feel safe asking questions, exploring their own beliefs, finding healing, and leaving with hope.

Why did you start this business?
Spell, Book and Candle wasn’t born from a desire to own a retail store—it was born from a desire to help people.
For more than twenty-five years, I’ve dedicated my life to spiritual guidance, healing, education, and walking beside people through some of life’s most meaningful moments. Along the way, I realized that many people weren’t simply searching for answers—they were searching for acceptance, understanding, and a place where they could simply be themselves without fear of judgment.
That dream became Spell, Book and Candle.
While our Amherst storefront will celebrate its first anniversary on July 25, the experience and heart behind it have been built over more than two decades. I wanted to create a place where kindness comes before judgment, education replaces fear, and every person who walks through our doors knows they belong.

What is one product or service that has become a customer favorite?
Our most requested service is Spiritual Advisement.
Unlike a traditional timed reading, Spiritual Advisement allows us to truly meet people where they are in life. There isn’t a strict time limit because meaningful healing and personal growth can’t always be rushed. We take the time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and gently uncover the deeper patterns that may be influencing a person’s life.
Whether someone is navigating grief, relationships, career changes, spiritual growth, or simply feeling lost, our purpose isn’t to tell them what to do. It’s to help them gain clarity, recognize their own strengths, and reconnect with the wisdom they already carry within themselves.
One belief that has guided my work for more than twenty-five years is that life often repeats its lessons until we learn what they’re here to teach us. Once we recognize those patterns, we create space for healing, growth, and lasting change.
My role isn’t to tell someone how to live their life, it’s to help them see the path that’s been there all along. I believe every person already has the answers within them. Sometimes they simply need someone to walk beside them while they rediscover them.
When someone leaves feeling heard, understood, empowered, and hopeful about the road ahead, that’s when I know I’ve done my job.

Why do you love serving the community?
Because community is built one relationship at a time.
Although Spell, Book and Candle has been part of downtown Amherst for just under a year, the love and support we’ve received has been incredible. From the day we opened our doors, we’ve been welcomed with kindness, encouragement, and friendships that have made us feel right at home.
Some people visit us during joyful moments in their lives. Others come through our doors carrying grief, uncertainty, or simply needing someone to listen. Every person has a story, and it’s a privilege to be trusted with even a small part of it.
If someone leaves our shop feeling lighter than when they arrived—feeling heard, respected, and knowing they matter—then we’ve accomplished exactly what we set out to do.
As we prepare to celebrate our one-year anniversary on July 25, our gratitude for this community only continues to grow. We look forward to serving Amherst for many years to come.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small business owners, building a business from the ground up has come with financial challenges, long hours, and countless learning experiences.
Another challenge has been helping people look beyond misconceptions surrounding the metaphysical community. Sometimes people hear words like metaphysical or witchcraft and immediately form opinions without understanding what we actually do.
Education has always been one of my greatest passions. Once people step inside our shop, they quickly discover that we’re about compassion, history, healing, education, and helping people become the very best versions of themselves.
Watching those misconceptions disappear through conversation, education, and understanding has become one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
What’s a fun fact about your business?
Many of our products are handcrafted right here in our shop—from herbal tea blends and ritual oils to spiritual baths and apothecary products.
I’m also the author of multiple published books on spirituality, healing, folklore, and witchcraft, and we’re currently developing the Sacred Arts Academy, an educational program designed to preserve traditional knowledge while creating meaningful learning opportunities for future generations.
One thing our customers quickly discover is that we’re always creating something new.
What advice would you give someone thinking about opening a business?
Don’t wait for the perfect moment, because it rarely comes.
Believe in your vision. Work harder than you ever imagined possible, stay true to your values, and remember why you started.
There will be setbacks, long days, and moments when you’ll question yourself. Those moments don’t define your journey—they become part of it.
Most importantly, never forget that people may come for what you sell, but they’ll return because of how you made them feel.
Lead with kindness. It will always be your greatest investment.
Which House are you?

As an author, educator, and owner of a metaphysical business, I’m naturally drawn to folklore, history, the paranormal, and the mysteries that encourage us to continue learning. Those passions have shaped both my writing and the work we do every day at Spell, Book and Candle.
Final Thoughts
Spell, Book and Candle was never just about opening a store.
It was about creating a place where people could feel seen, accepted, and welcomed exactly as they are.
Whether someone visits us for Spiritual Advisement, a class, a handcrafted product, a cup of tea, or simply a conversation, my hope is that they leave knowing they matter.
My greatest hope has never been to change someone’s beliefs. It’s to help people remember their own strength. If someone walks through our doors feeling lost and leaves remembering just how capable, resilient, and worthy they truly are, then Spell, Book and Candle has fulfilled its purpose.
Thank you to the Amherst community for welcoming us with open arms during our first year. The friendships we’ve made and the support we’ve received have meant more than words can express. We are honored to be part of this community, and we look forward to many years of learning, growing, and serving together.
